Inspiring Opportunities

To find full details of our Inspiring Opportunities project and it’s results, please take a read of our project report here.

Our COVID response project, ‘Inspiring Opportunities’, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, was a collaborative project that aimed to support three key demographics in and around the Selby District; Adults struggling with their mental health, young people living with disabilities or out of mainstream education and all young people in schools aged 5-13.

Project Overview

Adult Support

Working with ‘Talk Tonight – Selby C.I.C.’ and ‘Be Heard’, we offered peer-peer support for up to 30 adults struggling with their mental health through our structured group sessions. These groups of up to 15, joined us for nine two-hour sessions at Community House in Selby to talk, share and listen together as we explored the factors that affect our mental wellbeing and the tools we can employ to help manage our wellbeing. Additionally, there was also the option to benefit from 1:1 support and to support others in the community by volunteering for any of a selection of local community initiatives. You can find out more about Talk Tonight – Selby C.I.C. and their involvement in the Inspiring Opportunities project by watching the short animation below.

Activities for young people out of mainstream education

In addition, Everyday Enable C.I.C. helped us develop a fully accessibly set of activities for young people living with disabilities or unable to access mainstream education due to behavioural difficulties. Working with Pupil Referral Units, disability support groups and youth services, we to provided the workshops directly to young people and also optimised the session plans for use by other groups.

Activities for schools and at home

With COVID disrupting our hands-on wildlife, ecology & mental health workshops in Schools, we optimised and developed our activities to be accessible online for Schools, youth groups and parents to access. We also deliviered some online workshops for classes at a handful of schools in the area.
